“DA LILYBEUM A MARSALA - una città, 2400 anni di Storia”

Ogni visita ha la durata di ca 2 ore

 

Incontro con i Sigg.ri partecipanti a Porta Nuova. Da lì si raggiunge la Chiesa Madre fondata nel XII secolo dai Normanni e intitolato a San Thomas Becket, Arcivescovo di Canterbury. Si prosegue verso la Chiesa del Purgatorio, esempio del barocco siciliano, dove accanto sono visibili le fondamenta di insediamenti del periodo punico, romano e medievale. La passeggiata si conclude in Via Garibaldi, dove diverse Enoteche testimoniano la vocazione vinicola della città, famosa in tutto il mondo per il vino liquoroso Marsala. Dopo la conclusione della visita nel Centro storico i partecipanti si recano al Complesso monumentale San Pietro per la visita della Sezione Archeologica e della Sezione Garibaldina, testimone dello Sbarco dei Mille avvenuto in città l'11 maggio 1860.

The first visit starts at 10:30 am, the second at 11:00 am
Each visit lasts approximately 2 hours

Meeting with the participants at Porta Nuova. From there you reach the Mother Church founded in the 12th century by the Normans and named after St Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury. We continue towards the Church of Purgatory, an example of Sicilian Baroque, where the foundations of settlements from the Punic, Roman and medieval periods are visible next to it. The walk ends on Via Garibaldi, where several wine shops bear witness to the city's winemaking vocation, famous throughout the world for its Marsala fortified wine. After the conclusion of the visit to the historic center, the participants go to the monumental complex of San Pietro for the visit of the Archaeological Section and the Garibaldina Section, witness to the Landing of the Thousand which took place in the city on May 11, 1860.
